FULFILLING THE DEMAND OF NUCLEAR TECHNOLOGY GRADUATES AROUND NORTH AMERICA IN THE 21ST CENTURY

In view of the current need for trained personnel as radiation control technicians, Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical (OCtech) College and the South Carolina State University (SCSU) Nuclear Engineering Program (NEP) have formed a partnership to create a unique curriculum that focuses on radiation and control. Students achieving an associate's degree in the program will focus on Radiation Protection Technology (RPT) and supplement their skills with a well-developed electronic instrumentation component at OCtech. It is desired to collaborate with industry partners to develop a competitive RPT program on a global scale, create additional programs to supplement the nuclear workforce, and to simulate an industry practicum experience. OCtech's objectives align to create nuclear awareness in the community and increase enrollment of minorities.
