As part of a joint European-Chinese research project "SCWR-FQT", an in-pile fuel assembly test for a supercritical water cooled reactor (SCWR) under realistic reactor conditions is planned to be designed and licensed. The fuel element, intended to be heated by fission and contained in a pressure tube, shall be inserted into a research reactor. In this paper, a postulated failure of the pressure tube is discussed. In order to predict the results of a failure event, the system's fast pressure and mass flow responses were simulated with APROS and, where necessary, pressure wave propagation was calculated with SIMMER-Ⅲ. The resulting forces were then applied to an FE-simulation of the affected parts using ANSYS Workbench.
