The Facility for Rare Isotope Beams (FRIB) is a DOE funded laboratory that is under construction at what is now the National Superconducting Cyclotron Laboratory at Michigan State University. Scheduled for commissioning in 2022, there are ongoing, lively discussions about the data acquisition system for FRIB, what it will look like and the role it will play in FRIB experiments. This paper reports on the current overall design goals, technologies and work in progress to meet those goals.
