A Permanent Magnet Dual Mechanical Port Machine (DMPM) is a compact and pure electrical solution to the hybrid electric vehicle traction, which features as two independent rotors and permanent magnets mounted on the outer rotor. The key barrier prevent the DMPM from practical usage is the existence of the brush and slipring. A way to eliminate the brush and slipring is presented in this paper, which leads to a brushless DMPM (BLDMPM). The torque behavior of the proposed BLDMPM is quite different from those in literature. An analytical method based on magnetic motive force (MMF) is adopted to analysis it. The working principle of the motor is explained. A prototype BLDMPM is given, and analyzed by finite element analysis.
