Improvement of dynamic performances of a current-source converter-based wind power plant composed of series-connected wind turbine generators is investigated. This type of wind power plant is one of the best candidates for a next-generation wind power plant because a substation-free offshore wind power plant can be realized.The dynamic performances of the plant when wind speeds are changed have been already studied through experimental investigations based on a lab system, and it has been seen that the response of the output power of the plant with basic control system becomes oscillatory. In this paper, a control strategy to damp such oscillation is discussed using the simulation model developed. A control system that suppresses instantaneous changes in the output active power is proposed, and it is shown that the usefulness of the control system is confirmed. Finally, the dynamic performances for a practical-scale system with the control system are also investigated.
