The present research work aims to enhance the voltage stability, ameliorate the system power factor, and reduce the total power loss, through optimal allocation of PV units and shunt capacitor banks (SCB) inside a distribution network. The proposed algorithm identifies firstly the most sensible buses to voltage instability were PV units are to be installed, then the optimal PVs sizes are fixed by minimizing the total power losses. It is worth highlighting that the PVs allocation process requires only the base case load flow results, which permits to escape exhaustive computation. Further, the SCB unit sizing is established to provide a better power factor and its appropriate position is assigned to the bus providing maximum loss saving. The suggested method has been tested on the 33 bus IEEE distribution network and its efficiency is discussed based on simulation results.
