The Spray Pyrolysis technique was applied to synthesize thin electrolytic films of yttria stabilized zirconia (8 mol% YSZ) onto porous substrates of perovskite La_(0.7)Sr_(0.3)MnO_3and gadolinia stabilized ceria (10 mol%GSC) onto dense substrates of YSZ. For both electrolytes the main process parameter that determines the film morphology is the deposition temperature. Aqueous precursor solutions were used for all experiments. The morphology was characterized by scanning electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction.The results indicate that it is possible to obtain adhesive and coherent films of YSZ by tuning the substrate temperature value. For the CGO electrolyte, adhesive but not coherent films were obtained. The substrate material was found to affect the final morphology of the deposited film.
