The Effect of Modifying Technologies on Asphalt Pavement Performance

摘要

This paper investigates bituminous mixture modified by two different modifying technologies: the internal modifying and the external modifying. Two kinds of bitumen modifiers (Sasobit, SBS) and two kinds of mixture modifiers (PRI, ExM) have been selected using AC-13C normal asphalt mixture as a reference. Through laboratory tests, the pavement performance of these four kinds of modified asphalt mixtures (SBS, Sasobit, PRI, and ExM) is studied, including the rutting stability, the capacity of anti-crack at low temperature, and the Marshall stability after immergence in water, etc. The effect of different modifying technologies on asphalt pavement performance is clarified in the paper. It indicates that the pavement performance of the external modified asphalt mixture is significantly better than the internal modified technology based on the test results. The external additive ExM is proved with promising application prospects. The application of external modifying technology is fully recommended due to its better performance.
