Hinterland accessibility is one of the determinants used to measure how a port competes in a multi-port gateway region. The interplay between port and hinterland receives lot of attention from academia. In this paper, we discuss how peripheral ports exist and compete with gateway ports in a region. We then build a regression model between hinterland and peripheral ports in the European Hamburg-Le Havre range to get an in-depth look that how peripheral ports interact with hinterland. In conclusion, we propose an inland construction and optimized logistics node design to enhance the connectivity between ports and hinterland.
