Chaotic optimization algorithm (COA), which has the features of easy implementation, short execution time and highly probability of escaping from local optimum, is a promising tool for economic dispatch of power systems. However, it is worthy to further investigate the chaos signal carrier for improving the accuracy and robustness of the algorithms. By means of orbit probability density, this paper studies the chaotic ergodicity of logistic map, proposes the chaotic optimization algorithm based on power function carrier(PFCOA), and then apply it to the economic dispatch of the power plant. Simulation results show that the PFCOA can get better solutions, need less calculation amount, and also have more robustness then COA.
