The comparative design and analysis of both conventional and metamaterial loaded microstrip patch antenna has provided. A novel structure of metamaterial is proposed in order to miniaturize the U-shaped micro-strip patch antenna. A new design methodology for producing miniaturized U-shaped patch antenna is introduced. The methodology uses interdigital capacitor provided on one arm of U-shaped patch antenna. The proposed antenna located on a 60mm×60mm FR4 substrate with 1.6mm thickness and dielectric constant of 4.4.The conventional antenna has designed for same dimensions as metamaterial loaded U-shaped patch antenna. Both antennas are fed by using co-planar waveguide (CPW) method. Simulation results for return loss and radiation pattern of both proposed and conventional antenna are shown and compared with practical results. These structures are simulated using CADFEKO Simulation Software.
