This study focuses on the development of the Korean port town in the colonial period.The research object is a coastal city of Tongyeong in South Gyeongsang Province, South Korea.This country had ever been a small fishing village and became the emigration fishing village in colonial period.The purpose of this study is to clearly examine the formation, development, and conversion of historic buildings in Tongyeong port town under Japanese rule.The result of this study can be summarized as follows: (1) The character of Tongyeong changed commerce and a fisheries town from military town in the end of 19th century with the formation of Japanese migrant fishing village colony;(2) Some historic buildings were replaced and reused new functional building.So they lost the original state due to be added wall and glass windows;(3) New public engineering works fascinated as landscape spot or picturesque scenery, and Undersea Road Tunnel was identified as a registered tangible cultural property.
