The paper presents the solution of combining voltage level monitoring and control in the distribution network of Terni, Italy, in presence of high level of photovoltaic (PV) production. In order to achieve the goal, new Unbundled Smart Meter (USM) concept has been considered at the level of the metering point of each PV production facility. The Smart Meter eXtension (SMX) of the USM is used for transmitting both billing values for the AMR central systems and instrumentation data for SCADA and voltage level observability, but also for receiving and controlling reactive power (Q) orders for the PV inverter, in order to improve voltage level.
