By interconnecting microgrids (μgrids) it is possible to increase economic efficiency and security of supply. In order to analyse the transient stability (qualitative and quantitative) of power systems, a hybrid method can be employed, which comprises both time-domain analyses and energy function. The main goal of this paper is to study the transient stability of a cluster of off-grid μgrids comprising diesel generators using the hybrid method. For an operating point several short-circuit calculations were performed in the investigated grid. By using an energy function the results of the time-domain simulations were analysed in detail. Further, corresponding time and energy values, stability margin and critical clearing time (CCT) were determined. It can be concluded that, the deviations in the calculated CCT compared to the time-domain simulations for the considered three faults lie between 9 - 29%.
