Power electronics devices such as MOSFETs and IGBTs can work at a high voltage and at a high switching frequency, which leads to a significant improvement in a power converter’s performance. Power inverters are electronic devices that contain various switch components and are used in a variety of applications, including renewable energy. Controlling these switches through proper control signals can generate AC output from a DC input. The Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) technique is important in power switch operation, as well as in minimizing switching losses and the effect of harmonics in DC to AC converters. To design a high-performance low-cost gate controller, a new gate driver circuit for a single-phase H bridge Unipolar inverter is proposed in this paper. The gate driver generates 50 Hz PWM based on the timer 555. Logic gates are used as a core for designing the gate driver and provide four output gate signals to the Unipolar inverter. Simulation results are used to verify the performance of a unipolar H-bridge inverter with the proposed design.
