UPDATE ON THE GOOGLE LUNAR XPRIZE

The Google Lunar XPRIZE is an incentive based prize for commercial robotic exploration of the lunar surface. Launched in September 2007, the Google Lunar XPRIZE offers a total of US$40 Million for completing objectives on the lunar surface, including the US$20 Million Grand Prize for being the first privately funded team to land on the Moon, move 500 meters and broadcast back live video. Teams in the Google Lunar XPRIZE come from all around the globe with varied designs and mission architectures to compete for the prize. In addition to the US$20 Million Grand Prize, teams are actively pursuing additional sources of revenue that will allow them to be sustainable after the completion of the Google Lunar X PRIZE to continue with further exploration of the lunar environment. This paper and accompanying presentation will show the latest status of the prize and the competing teams competing.
