FOOD SAFETY INITIATIVES AT TRIVENI ENGINEERING INDUSTRIES LIMITED-SBG

During the present sugar scenario, the sugarcane prices are being governed by the state government without considering the cost of production because there is a large gap between cost of production and sugar sale price. There is no mechanism with the state government to relate the sugarcane price with the sugar sale price. In the competitive market especially the institutional buyers, who consume 65% Sugar of total sugar production of the country, are focusing for safer supply chain. Hence they are forcing to the sugar suppliers to adopt global standards like GFSI bench mark standards FSSC-22000 and focusing more on hygiene and quality parameters. Apart from the above, our regulatory scenario has also changed. The Food safety and standard authority of India (FSSAI) has been established under food safety and standard act 2006 by The Ministry of Health & Family Welfare. Food Safety and Standards Authority of India Regulations 2011 has come into force for food article to regulate production, storage, distribution, transportation, import and export to ensure the safe food for human consumption. Now maintaining a food safety management system is become mandatory for every food business operator. This paper is an effort to explain the initiative of food safety management system (FSMS) at Triveni Engineering & Industries Limited-SBG and its benefits.
