The relationship of average relative temperature disparity (RTD) during July to September, the elongation (grand growth) phase of the crop, with plant, ratoon and. average yield, of sugarcane was studied for Gorakhpur district of east Uttar Pradesh. The long-term (1981-2006) crop productivity data along with the commensurate average monthly weather data for the district were collected from different sources. Separate models were developed to estimate plant, ratoon and average cane productivity based on average RTD for July-September using database from 1981-2000. The yield of the crops followed quadratic relationship with RTD. The models were validated separately for plant, ratoon and average cane productivity on database from 2001-2006. The RMSE between observed and estimated yields were 3.87%, 4.42% and 3.20% respectively for plant, ratoon and sugarcane.
