A Study of User-Profile Based Dynamic Channel Allocation in the Dual-band Environment

As various wireless technologies and application demands for more and more bandwidth, dynamic channel allocation in multiple bands has become an attractive research direction. In this paper, we propose several channel allocation policies for various types of user profiles under various fluctuation traffic loads in dual-band multi-cell environments. The considered policies include 1) fixed allocation with admission control, 2) reallocation on hourly basis, and 3) reallocation on hourly basis with forced dropping. Performance comparisons of the system utility and the band utilization with various policies are investigated. Also, how the bandwidth concentration ratio is balanced between the operator's revenue and users' satisfaction under a selected policy is illustrated. Simulations show that the proposed dynamic policies in a dual-band environment can achieve much better utility performance than that in a single-band environment when no dynamic policy is employed.
