It is known that multiple-symbol differential detection can enhance the performance of coded differential phase shift keying (DPSK) systems over a correlated flat fading channel, but have exponential complexity. In this paper, the proposed scheme, Forward/Backward-MSDSD (FB-MSDSD), consisted of MAP-MSDSD, channel estimation and soft demodulation can reduce the complexity by dividing the original detection interval into forward and backward processes. The simulation runs show that compared with SISO MSDSD scheme, the proposed scheme has similar bit error rate but lower complexity.
