Exploring the Complexities of Information Practices through Arts-Based Research

Within and beyond Library and Information Science (LIS),researchers are employing participatory, arts-based researchas one way of extending traditional research methods. Theuse of creative methods can enrich our understanding ofcomplex information practices, particularly in multimediainformation environments. This panel will provide anoverview of arts-involved practices of data collection, dataanalysis and knowledge exchange, including examples ofspecific applications within LIS research projects. We willdiscuss the ways creative arts may function socially andpsychologically among researchers and researchparticipants, as well as topics and populations with whicharts-involved methods may be especially enriching.
