In the Name of Terror?: Information and Policy in the Decade Post 9/11

It seems that every passing week reveals new developmentsin the ways in which information policies are beingimplemented throughout society. Tragedies like the BostonMarathon bombings of March 2013, along with the VIARail train plots in the Toronto-Montreal corridor remindand compel us to examine the decade that has passed sincethe events of 9/11 and the subsequent legislative and policyimpacts on information. The aim is to provide informationprofessionals and scholars with an open forum to criticallyreflect on post-9/11 legislation, policies, and practices andhow they impact access to information and informationalactivities more generally, including the production,management, and diffusion of public information. With aneye toward the future, we examine the extent to which thediscourses and practices of the past decade have contributedto shaping and reshaping our information environment, howthe information field has responded in the ten years sincethis defining event, and why and how informationprofessionals ought to remain engaged in these matters inthe future.
