Information Use, Support and Decision Making in Complex, Uncertain Environments

摘要

The research reported in this paper explored decisionmaking and information use by public safety personalleading teams responding to major incidents. The researchmethodology was qualitative using critical incidenttechnique and observation grounded in Activity Theory asmeta-theoretical framework. The data gathered uncoveredintuitive as well as analytic modes of thinking. We arguethat this has implications for decision support and ourunderstanding of decision making in time-constrained,complex and uncertain environments.
