Time Pressure, User Satisfaction and Task Difficulty

In this paper, we explore the question of whether or notperceived time pressure and task difficulty are predictors ofusers’ satisfaction with their search strategies. Weconducted a crowd-sourced user study in which 269participants completed a total of 600 information-seekingtasks. Based on self-reported data gathered from post-taskquestionnaires, we found that both perceived time pressureand task difficulty were significant predictors of satisfactionwith search strategy. No interaction effect was found. Thisexploratory analysis suggests that time pressure caninfluence search processes and is a dimension that shouldbe investigated in more depth. We propose future researchto investigate the impact of time pressure on othercontextual factors and search outcome measures.
