SOME ASPECTS OF GROUNDWATER MONITORING PICEANCE BASIN, COLORADO

With hundreds of existing drill holes into and through the fresh water aquifer in Piceance Basin, and with perhaps 5,000 additional future wells, some degree of oil and gas related degradation is a near certainty. A properly designed and operated hydrologic monitoring system is an absolute necessity for early detection and remediation, so as to protect this valuable resource. Prevention, apparently not widely practiced by regulatory agencies, is much less expensive than remediation.
