It was identified that BMSCs could be induced to differentiate into neural cells at a high efficiency when they seeded on oriented conductive fibers with laminin coating and cultured in a inductive medium containing NGF. Electrical stimulation could further promote the differentiation of BMSCs. Multiple factors including electrical stimulation, laminin and NGF had strong synergetic efficiency in facilitating BMSCs' differentiating into neural cells. The results of this study suggested a promising strategy that combining parallel-aligned conductive fibers with stem cells was envisoned able to enhance nerve regeneration with enhanced outcomes, especially, when extra stimulation was applied.
