Conclusions: In summary, our data suggest that the mechanical forces exerted on astrocytes during an mTBI can lead to cell damage and activation of intracellular pathways in order to counteract the damage produced by mTBI. Interestingly, the extracellular matrix is essential, since laminin strongly inhibited the effects of mTBI. Further studies are necessary in order to clarify the intracellular pathways involved in this model.
