Integrated Vehicle Health Management (IVHM) ensures the reliable capture of the "health status" of the overall aerospace system and helps to prevent its degradation or failure by providing reliable information about problems and faults. IVHM includes advanced smart sensors, diagnostics and prognostics software and model-based reasoning systems. Intelligent IVHM systems enable rapid corrective actions and return to nominal or gracefully degraded operation without external control. IVHM systems guarantee better information about the root cause of problems, increases vehicle and crew safety and the chance of successful mission completion. In time-critical and safety-critical systems, error diagnostics requires immediate reaction and use of failure prevention mechanisms such as redundancy management and voting. Time-Triggered Protocol (TTP) provides a system development infrastructure and services that simplify the design of complex fault-tolerant system architectures with fully integrated Subsystem Health Management (SHM) using available sensor data. This can directly influence the economics of system integration, availability, reliability, and maintenance costs. TTP is a platform technology for fault-tolerant distributed embedded computing and networking. TTP provides a databus functionality as a part of its platform functionality, but this is only one part of the overall set of supported features. This paper describes the features of TTP which support layered implementation of IVHM and SHM integrated within the functional subsystem. Furthermore, the paper briefly examines the impact of the built-in TTP services on the development of efficient diagnostics, prognostics and model-based reasoning systems as well as its potential impact on "no fault founds" (NFF) maintenance.
