With the development of power grid, the centralized optimization methods could not cope with the extensive penetration of loads and satisfy the demands for the “plug and play” of electrical equipment, compared with the centralized economic dispatch problem(EDP), a distributed strategy considering unbalanced communication topology was proposed to settle the EDP incorporating generation-demand equality and generation capacity limits. The presented method based on a first-order consensus protocol in which the leader responds to the power imbalance and its followers follow this response in such a way that all generators adjust their generating power to consensus on incremental cost. The proposed approach uses a distributed manner to settle the traditional centralized EDP. The proposed strategy for EDP has been verified by the 39-bus test system, simulations demonstrated on a variety of cases verify the presented method can solve the EDP effectively.
