Electrical energy storage systems are still quite expensive. In order to make local PV storage systemsmore economical it could be advantageous to grant a third party contractor access to a certain amount of storage capacity.The contractor can integrate this storage capacity in his virtual power plant. Therefore it is necessary to accountthe energy flows in and out of the PV storage system separately with different prices, depending on whether theenergy flow is caused by the contractor or by the PV system operator.This article presents a new multidirectional metering concept that ensures the accurate registration of the different energyflows in separate metering points. The benefit of the concept is demonstrated by means of sample applications.This new metering concept allows an easy implantation of energy metering for PV-Systems with multiple use storagesystems at low cost per unit. All relevant energy flows are assigned correctly and can be used for billing with onlytwo real meters and calculative linking. This metering concept opens local private storage systems to third party contractorsand enables a variety of new business cases for the economic integration of PV storage systems in the powersystem.
