This paper summarizes wave characteristics acquired by GPS buoys ata spot of 100–400 m in water depth and ultrasonic wave gauges on a20–60 m deep seabed, around Japan in 2007–2012. The spatial variationsin monthly wave statistics among the GPS buoys off the Pacificcoast of Tohoku Region are smaller than the inter-annual variations.The ratio of the individual significant wave height at an ultrasonic wavegauge site to that at its geometrically adjacent GPS buoy site varieswith the wave direction at the GPS buoy site.
