Analysis of the Sediment Transport Around the Taimali River Estuary

摘要

Taiwan is usually invaded by typhoons during the summer and autumnseasons. When a typhoon approaches the coast, the strong wave energycombined with a large amount of discharge from the rivers usuallyreforms the morphology around the estuaries. This study integratednumerical simulation and field survey to analyze the mechanism ofsediment transport around the Taimali river estuary. The effect of thecoastal sediment transportation, the suspended load of the river, as wellas the change of the bathymetry, were all taken into consideration. Thesimulated change of the bathymetry agrees readily with the results ofthe survey. The successful practice of methodology in assessing thecoastal evolution could be very helpful on integrated coastalmanagement.
