This research used a highly realistic driving simulator to reproduce an intersection traffic environment with a high accident risk. The simulated potential accident scenario featured a vehicle turning right at an intersection and a motorcycle emerging suddenly at the far side of a line of waiting vehicles in the oncoming lane. The simulation results confirmed that this scenario had a fairly high probability of causing an accident, which is reflected in real-world accident statistics. In many cases, drivers only have a short time to avoid this type of intersection accident by braking (less than 1 second). After analyzing the results, it was concluded that, to avoid a collision with an oncoming vehicle going straight on when turning right at an intersection, the driver should predict possible danger within the intersection, drive slowly at a reduced speed through the intersection, and quickly recognize any vehicles going straight on.
