INTELLIGENT TRAFFIC INFORMATION SYSTEMS BASED ON FEATURE OF TRAFFIC FLOW

Traffic congestion, which is awfully blocked the development of Chinese national economy, is increasingly severe in many Chinese cities. Intelligent traffic information system is a effective method to relax the press of congestion and equilibrate dynamical distribution of area traffic flow by means of broadcasting road information. Feature analytical method based on empirical data is taken into account and used in research the up-growth and development of congestion from the mechanism of movement of urban traffic flow. Traffic system is divided into several road granules with multi-scales of spatio-temporal dimension. The features of patterns of traffic state are abstracted. The phases' structure of traffic flow and threshold of phase boundary are determined statistically. The state of traffic system is identified as free flow, congestion or traffic jam so that prediction and pre-warrant of congestion or traffic jam are made. Finally, the software of intelligent traffic information system with distributed architecture is developed and a test project is founded in urban expressway in Guangzhou.
