This study investigates the influence of the inlet piping on the performance of the oil feed pump. Lubrication systems use geared volumetric pumps and in this case, a gerotor pump is used. The critical performance parameter is the volumetric efficiency. This paper begins with a theoretical description of cavitation, de-gassing and pump operation. Then, an overview of the different experimental investigations conducted on the Universite Libre de Bruxelles (ULB) aeroengine lubrication system test bench is given. This will highlight different sources of performance degradation. A short description of the numerical simulations conducted and results follow. Finally, the paper concludes with a proposition of a first basic model for pump performance.
