Packet forwarding enhancement for virtualized next-generation core networks

Based on the CUPS architecture, this paper develops the user-plane function on a virtualized next-generation core network. To enhance the performance of the packet forwarding function, this paper applies Intel Data Plane Development Kit (DPDK) [8] to develop the user-plane function. Finally, this paper shows the throughput of the packet forwarding for 8-core and 4-core CPU.
