Spectrum resolution of the array is limited by the array aperture. However, in practice the system cost is proportional to the number of sensors. In this paper, we extend the one-dimensional (1-D) extrapolation method to estimate Direction of Arrival (DOA) using a planar array with virtual sensors. Assuming the spatial and spectrum samples satisfy Gaussian and Cauchy distribution, respectively, the precision of DOA estimation is improved within a few iterations.
