In this paper, a class-J power amplifier (PA) with dynamic matching network is studied and designed. By introducing the dynamic matching module based on tunable capacitor, the matching network can fit and follow the optimal impedance trajectory of class-J PA under different frequencies and output power to achieve the highest efficiency in broadband and output power back-off (OPBO) range. As verification, based on the designed dynamic matching network, a class-J PA operating from 3.3 to 4.2GHz for 5G frequency band is designed and fabricated using GaN HEMT CGH40010F from CREE. The test result shows that the saturated output power of 38.2-39.8dBm with power added efficiency (PAE) of 43.1-50.6% and the PAE of 37.3-44.7% at 4-dB OPBO are obtained within the band.
