The continuous development of integrated circuits capable of digital signal processing is opening new possibilities in the design of compact and powerful radar systems. Some concepts of software radar rely on the new generations of digital signal processors. However a pure "software radar" is not optimal, eg. from the power consumption point of view. There are many algorithms that fit much better in today's FPGA's. In the paper, we describe the concept of a signal processing platform comprising of well-coupled FPGAs and DSPs, providing the optimal processing power in both classes of components. The concept allows for implementation of a whole DSP block of typical radar in one 6U card, still supporting scalability for more demanding designs. Some examples of the application of the board in actual systems are also presented.
