BUER-S Tactical Radar for Ground Surveillance using an Active Phased Array Antenna

The BUER-S radar sensor is a new generation mobile X-Band pulse Doppler radar for ground surveillance applying active phased array antenna technology. This technology enables the radar to fulfill the multi-role requirement providing flexible adaptive scanning and tracking schemes and to perform in conjunction with other techniques its complex analysis tasks. The BUER-S radar is the main sensor of the BUER-Multi-Sensor-System for battlefield observation including TV- and IR-Sensors, a BTID (ZEFF)- system - and (optionally) a NGIFF system. The BUER-System itself provides all interfaces necessary for the link to C{sup}3I - posts. The BUER-S radar is especially designed for Out of Area operations and therefore likely to also support counter-terrorism and being applied in new dimensions of possible conflicts. A BUER system feasibility study has been carried out and a radar demonstrator has been built. Some properties characterising the performance of the active array antenna and the operational benefits will be presented.
