This paper proposes an intelligent temperature switching control strategy for a cement raw meal calcination process. The control strategy consists of five modules, namely a easy calcination controller, a difficult calcination controller, an abnormal condition controller, a feedforward controller and a switching mechanism. Practical application to the raw meal calcination process has shown that when the raw meal flow varies frequently this control strategy can not only ensure that the calciner temperature can be guaranteed within its required ranges, but also control outlet temperature of preheater C5 at the level that the outlet temperature of preheater C5 is less than the maximum value. Moreover, it has been observed that the proposed control strategy has been successfully applied to the raw meal calcination process of Jiuganghongda Cement Plant in China and its efficiency has been validated by the practical application results.
