摘要

Feasibility of bovine submaxillary mucin (BSM) filmsgenerated via spontaneous adsorption from aqueoussolutions onto polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) andpolystyrene (PS) surfaces have been investigated asbiomimetic coatings for polymeric biomaterials. Twoattributes as biomedical coatings, namely anti-foulingproperties and lubricity, have been focused on in thisstudy. Optical waveguide light-mode spectroscopy(OWLS) and fluorescence microscopy studies haveshown that albumin, fibrinogen, immunoglobulin G, andserum rapidly adsorb onto BSM layers formed on PDMSand PS surfaces. Pin-on-disk tribometry, employingcompliant PDMS as tribopairs, has shown that BSMcoatings generated on PDMS surface via spontaneousadsorption from aqueous solution has effective lubricatingproperties, but for very limited duration only.
