Hyaluronic acid, found in several animal connective tissues, present in cartilage, joints, bones and human skin and is responsible for tissue repair, is a glycosaminoglycan formed by the dimer of D-glucuronic acid and DN-acetylglucosamine, whose molecular weight may vary 500-3.5000 kDa, yet their presence in adults reduces about 50% compared to the newborn, reducing drastically the tissue regeneration. This paper evaluates macroscopically and histologically the healing aspect of surgical incisions in Wistar rats (male) stimulated with the application of hyaluronic acid from chicken crest (developed by the Group of Biochemistry and Biomaterial - IQSC-USP) in sutures. The photographic results of macroscopic incisions held daily at predetermined times during a period of 7 days showed that the group was applied hyaluronic acid showed a faster healing and better aspect compared to the control group, which was confirmed by histological study after macroscopic study. Histologic examination of samples of the incisions, we demonstrated the formation of the material collagenic and also the presence of many fibroblasts with use of hyaluronic acid from the incisions compared to those without HA. This shows that the use of hyaluronic acid extracted from chicken crest-ra significantly improve the speed and the aspect of healing, thus confirming its importance in this process, mainly in the repair and regeneration of tissues for small incisions.
