The ge sture of re aching and gr asping r equires the inte gration of the trunk, arms and hand movements in a smooth motion. The execution of these movements is modified in patients with spastic hemipa resis. In this work we make a dynamic analy sis of the uppe r limb of this ge sture in pe ople who suffered a stroke . Most of the work on the gesture does not have information on ne t muse le moments and pow ers, which are important for make a more accurate analysis of the movement. From this analysis we can identify abnormalities in the gesture. This paper models the upper limb and e valuating the angles, forces, net moments and ne t muscle power during the gesture of reaching and gras ping in patients and a c ontrol subjects group. This model may be useful in rehabilitation programs for patients with disabilities in the upper limb, such as stroke. Furthermore, the complementary use of these models will allow more effectively estimate the pro blem to try and quantify the d egree of injur y in te rms of motor skills. F or example you could program rehabilitation routines considers the dynamic information of muscle activity during a standard gesture of daily living such as reaching and grasping.
