摘要

Although thoracoabdominal asincrony (TAA) is an important issue in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), there are no studies in the literature investigating the association of TAA and inspiratory and expiratory loads in these patients. To this end, we conducted a controlled observational study in 8 controls and 23 individuals with COPD with several degrees of airway obstruction where we performed a simultaneous analysis of the impedance of the respiratory system and thoracoabdominal motion. The results demonstrated a significant association between the TAA and the mechanical load during inspiration (p<0,03), but not with the load during expiration (p=ns). We do not observed significant associations (p=ns) with the spirometric parameters usualy used in clinical respiratory mechanic evaluation. Based on this results, we can conclude that the TAA increases with the inspiratory load, and is not related with the parameters traditionally used to examine patients with COPD.
