Research On The Lateral Load Capacity Of Offshore Platform Piles Under Scour Conditions

To the offshore and coastal structures that founded on piles, scour has come to be one of the most significant factors to be considered in the design. This paper is aimed at investigating the effect of scour on the lateral response of piles embedded in clay. Factors such as the scour depth (S), the pile slenderness ratios (L/D), and the pile head configurations were studied to show their effect on the variation of lateral load capacity (PVC). The results show that for the piles with a smaller ratio value of scour depth to pile diameter (i.e. S/D <1), scour has a smaller influence on the lateral load capacity, and, for the piles with smaller pile slenderness ratio (i.e. L/D <10), the lateral load capacity will largely influenced by the scour. Meanwhile, the free-head pile is more sensitive to the PVC induced by scour than that pile with a fixed-head.
