Sugarcane is a vegetative propagated commercial crop. The setts are being used as a seed material for cultivation of sugarcane. It belongs to Gramineae family. There are five important genera in sugarcane and widely cultivated species is Saccharum officinarum. Generally, cultivated varieties of sugarcane under tropical and sub tropical conditions produce flowering. The phenomena of flowering in sugarcane are botanically termed as "Arrowing". Arrowing is an essentiality for breeding programmes, whereas it is a bane for commercial cultivation of sugarcane.
