There is a nationwide effort underway to increase the life span of existing pavementstructures, especially in an environmentally friendly (sustainable) way. Rubblizing existingPortland cement concrete pavement (RPCC) and overlaying with asphaltic concrete (RPCC48AC) has been one popular and effective method of accomplishing this task. Historicalperformance of RPCC-AC pavements has been well documented.The purpose of the research was to determine the functional and structuralperformance of RPCC-AC pavements in Louisiana. Fifteen projects were available forfunctional distress analysis with service life’s ranging from newly constructed to 11.23 years.Five projects were available for structural performance analysis with service life’s rangingfrom newly constructed to 9.12 years of age.Regression modeling was used to verify the results obtained from other studies,develop a model to predict future responses, as well as authenticate the association betweenthe response variable and one explanatory variable. Predictions from these equations wereconsidered valid to 15 years.The results of the analysis indicated that functional distresses such as transverse,longitudinal, and alligator cracking have been minimal and practically negligible on RPCC61AC roadways in Louisiana, indicating superior performance. Ride quality was predicted tohave a IRI value of 60 in./mile at 15 years of service.Structural layer evaluations indicated that the layer moduli for the AC, RPCC, andBC increased as the pavement aged, indicating a superior performing pavement. In placestructural number, SN eff(FWD), was measured and predicted to increase by as much as 52percent over the 15 year period.
