“A DAY IN THE LIFE” of a MBA Custodian for an INMM paper from the Y-12 National Security Complex

“A day in the life” of a MBA Custodian at theY-12 National Security Complex is notlimited to the responsibility for oversight and technical leadership for Nuclear MaterialsControl and Accountability (NMCA) within the material balance areas (MBAs). A MBACustodian acts as the primary interface on NMCA issues with the operations organizationthat manages the activities within the MBA accounting for the special nuclear material. AMBA Custodian at the Y-12 National Security Complex serves many roles andresponsibilities. As Y-12 reduces its footprint a custodian would assist in the planning andimplementation of controls to transfer material and cleanout of older buildings and withmoves into the newer buildings. A custodian could be involved in Workshops helpingother countries learn how to manage and control accountable material from loss anddiversion. A custodian may be called to support the Vulnerability Assessment group inidentifying potential weakness and improvement to material control. Other responsibilitiesalso include investigations, support of performance testing, and anomaly resolution.Tasked each and every day a MBA custodian at the Y-12 National Security Complex isinvolved in many diverse roles.
