The architectural award for building-integrated solar technology granted by Solarenergief?rderverein Bayern(the Bavarian association for the promotion of solar energy, in German abbreviated as SeV) aims at promoting excellence inplanning and designing of building-integrated solar power systems. This award makes accessible the exemplary solutions inqualitatively sophisticated architecture to the greater public. This is the fifth time SeV has sponsored a competition dedicatedto integrating solar technology into architecture. The entries submitted for the competition in 2011 show how architects havebecome increasingly interested in solar technology. Private homes continue to hold a dominant position as regards the buildingtypes, however, the scope of requirements regarding building function remains varied in general. It has been pleasing tofollow the positive developments in the quality of architectural and technical solutions used in building small apartments,including a number of show homes. There has also been greater interest in integrating solar collectors into building fa?ades.Solar technology is even being incorporated into installations in public spaces and active media fa?ades.
